GIVING BACK
GPA Midstream Rocky Mountain Chapter (GPARMC) provides opportunities throughout the year for members to support the communities in which they live and work in. Each community outreach event gives members a chance to work together and meet & mingle with friends and peers from the local oil & gas industry.
2020-2021 Year-to-date GPARMC has volunteered over 450 hours of service through partnerships with numerous local charitable organizations. The most recent of which was Restoring the Colorado Forest where we planted 390 trees, after the damage caused by the third-largest wildfire in state history. Along with our ongoing partnership with food for thought, which consists of, several weekly food drive fundraisers in response to the Coronavirus lockdown. The pandemic has presented our community with many challenges, including forcing food insecurity to become an expanded issue overnight, with many Denver-Metro families greatly affected.
RESTORING COLORADO’S FOREST
Colorado’s 3rd largest wildfire in state history was started by an illegal campfire on June 27th, 2018. The Spring Creek Fire raced across 108,045 acres of forested foothills in southern Colorado, near La Veta Pass on the eastern edge of the San Luis Valley. By the time it was fully contained on September 10th, the Spring Creek blaze had destroyed over 140 structures and cost more than $32 million to fight.
GPARMC partnered with the CSU Foundation to plant forest tree seedlings. 19 members and guests traveled 398 miles, planted 390 trees, and completed a combined total of 228 volunteer hours. This event took place at the Yellowstone Creek Ranch at an altitude of 8,895 feet.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
During the Covid-19 quarantine, together with other Food for Thought volunteers, GPARMC members & friends gathered to pack groceries for Denver Public Schools hungry students. After volunteering for numerous event dates, over 30,000 “Power Sacks” of food were packed and provided to kids in need in the Denver area.
Today, Food for Thought Denver remains a 100% volunteer organization which strives to eliminate weekend hunger — servicing 53 schools in the Denver area. Each Friday, individuals, students, and corporate volunteers gather to fill “PowerSacks”. Each bag contains enough non-perishable food items to feed a family of four for the weekend. The bags are then distributed to the students on Friday afternoons to take home to their families. Food for Thought’s vision is to ultimately live in a community where weekend hunger is no longer a roadblock in a child’s path to success. We at GPARMC share their vision and hope to continue to offer our time and support for years to come.
TENNYSON CENTER
The Tennyson Center for Children (TCC) is an organization dedicated to helping children who have experienced severe child abuse, neglect, and/or trauma. Their mission is to help these children heal and reintegrate back into Colorado communities, and to encourage them to change their life’s stories.
TCC believes “the oil and natural gas industry tirelessly stands with children and families experiencing trauma in our state, and further helps to heal those children as adults by welcoming them into the professional community. This support intertwines our communities in amazing ways, and models corporate excellence”. In an effort to support TCC’s noble cause GPARMC members enthusiastically volunteered at the Tennyson Center for Children, helping with much needed outdoor clean-up and other landscape activities and hopes to continue that support in the future.
STOCKINGS FOR SOLDIERS
Time away from family and friends for months at a time is a sacrifice few of us can truly understand. Missing all the celebrations, warmth, and time with family shared during the holiday season makes that separation even more challenging. In honor of that sacrifice, GPARMC Midstream partnered with Marine Corps League – Broomfield Detachment in support of their annual effort to provide a little holiday cheer to our troops overseas.
Members volunteered to give a little back by successfully collecting and stuffing over 1000 holiday stockings to help our soldiers feel connected to family and friends here at home!
EXTREME COMMUNITY MAKEOVER
GPARMC has volunteered numerous times in recent years to partner with Extreme Community Makeover to cultivate community, connect residents, and clean up the city we call home, “One Block at a Time.”
Extreme Community Makeover coordinates volunteer teams to partner with underserved people to improve their own homes and neighborhoods. These projects build safer environments; cultivate community among residents, neighborhoods, and networks of local resource providers; and connect residents to a permanent path towards healthy, hopeful, and stable lives.
