TOPIC:  "What the NEW PHMSA Gas Transmission MEGA RULE Means for Pipeline Operators"

Presenters: Bryan Louque, PE - Vice President of Asset Integrity & Corrosion Audubon Companies & Joel Troyer - Vice President of NDE / Material Verification Audubon Companies

Summary:  On October 1, 2019, the U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) published amendments to 49 CFR Parts 191 and 192 in the Federal Register. This includes issuing Part 1 of the Gas Transmission Mega-Rule. The regulation is commonly referred to as the Mega Rule, as it represents the most significant regulatory impact on gas transmission pipelines since the original Gas Transmission Integrity Management Program (IMP) regulation was issued in 2003.  The rule aims to increase the level of safety associated with the transportation and operation of onshore gas transmission pipelines. On July 1, 2020, the new PHMSA “Gas Mega Rule, Part 1” went into effect.
